If you follow me on my Insta-stories, I always share “Name that tune” #sweaty-selfies. This is when I stretch my muscles after my run at the beach. To keep things interesting and to ensure I stretch for at least 5 minutes, I will ask fellow runners to name that tune and tag a few runners who recently inspired me on my run for the day. I lip sync to the best of my ability and ask my running friends or anyone following along, if they can name that tune. Follow me on my Instagram stories and join in on the fun if you are interested to play. It’s an awesome way for me to stretch my muscles and interact with my fellow running friends, since I don’t get to run with them often due to my work schedule at the hospital. After a quick stretch at the beach and if time permits, I usually head home and choose a flow from YogaGlo. It’s the perfect complement to my training runs.
Here are my go-to stretches at the beach before or after a run.
Stork pose: Stretches hamstrings
Standing Hamstring: Stretches your hamstrings, hips, and calf muscles
Runners Lunge: Provides a deep stretch for the hips, hip flexors, groin and legs.
Side Lunge: Stretches your hips, groin, and inner thigh
Pigeon Pose: Stretches your hips and glutes – ps. I absolutely love this pose!
Calf stretch with the wall: Stretches the calf muscles
Forward to Knee: Stretches the hips & calf muscles
Arm stretch: Stretches Shoulders & Arms – your arms are just as important as your legs! So don’t forget your arms.
Here are a few of the stretches I perform prior to or after my run while I cheerfully lip sync my song of the day. I get really happy after my runs so I hope my silliness is contagious and possibly inspires you to get out and run, just remember to stretch 😉
